transparency: our version of organic certificaton

We grow organically here at Good Growers. On our half-acre farm we don't use any synthetic fertilisers or non-organic herbicides, pesticides, or fungicides. One day we may go to the hassle of getting certified as Organic (capital O), but for now we are an open book to you, our customers.

I try to keep really good records of everything I do on the farm, and below have included some of my records for you to see with some specificity what is going into the soil and onto your food. I will aim to complete this page with all our records over the Summer break as there's some software gremlins to work out.

Fertilising records

Click here to look at my records for every bit of fertiliser that has gone onto the soil. This spreadsheet shows a visual view of every bed on the farm, and the dates fertiliser or minerals were added. I will add a page on this spreadsheet with a full list of all the fertilisers and minerals we use.

Power and water usage records

Click here to see the farm's power and water usage. I try to record this at the end of every month just so I have on-going data, but my water meter is always there and I have an app that connects to a power meter that keeps records of power usage stored.

Records to add:

  1. More detailed watering records - useful for you to see how much water it takes to grow veggies, and the cost of it. Got to find a way to have my irrigation controller talk to a spreadsheet.
  2. Crop plan - useful for you see how much planting I do all year. I use software called Tend for this and just need to find a way to present it to you.
  3. Foliar spraying and other pest control records. Shows foliar feeding regimen plus spraying certified organic bacterial caterpillar herbicide weekly. Also records of releasing predatory insects. Once again need to figure out how to share info from Tend with you.
  4. Seed lists and suppliers.
  5. Financials - this one is a bit scary to show but I'll simplify our financial records and projections to give you an idea of what it costs to run this farm, and how much I earn.
